Ball Flight

What is Optimal Backspin?

Optimal Backspin is the least amount of backspin possible to maintain the shot's height (lift) as well as still being able to penetrate forward through the air.

The ball can fly in many different ways depending on the combination of backspin and launch angle. (Exhibited below are several different ball flight charts based on the combination of different backspin and launch angle conditions)

Note: The Optimal Spin shot typically has a flight pattern similar to the above. This high yet penetrating arc allows for maximum distance.
